Learning More About Real Estate

After finally saving up enough money to use as a down payment, I decided that it was time to hit the market. I met with a lender, got pre-approved for a loan, and then started visiting different properties. However, I quickly realized that I didn't know as much about real estate as I would have hoped. I wanted to find a great neighborhood and know what to ask the professionals, but I could tell that I needed a little help. To point me in the right direction, I started working with a great real estate agent who was familiar with the area. This blog is all about educating the general public on real estate matters.

Recommendations To Help You Be More Successful In Your Home Search And Purchase

by Nathan Olson

Now is a great time to buy a home, while interest rates are still low and new and beautiful homes are coming up for sale every day. To help you in your search, a real estate agent is your greatest tool and your ally within your target market for your home search. Here are some tips to help you work with your real estate agent while you are searching for a home to buy.

Communicate With Your Agent

One of the best recommendations for working with a real estate agent is to keep your communication open through the entire process. You should be able to communicate what you want and need during the process, and your agent should update you with new information during the buying process. Let your realtor know at the start what type of home you want and in which area. If they don't know clearly, they are not going to provide you with matching listings that fit your criteria.

Talk to your realtor about your situation so they understand where you are and why you are buying a house. If you are on a tight schedule to find a home within a month or two, make sure they know this. Or, if you want to buy a home in the next six months and are not in a hurry, it is important that they understand as well. Your realtor can set up a home listing notification for you to get any new matching listings every day, once a week, or several times each day as they come available. It is important that you get the home listings in your timeframe, whether that is within a few hours of a listing being posted or by the next business day. This also depends on how urgent your home search is and how quickly you want to move.

Know Your Home Needs

Once you communicate your expectations and needs with your realtor for your home buying experience, you should already have a clear understanding of what you want in a home. Have you looked through the local inventory and researched different areas to see what types of properties are available? If not, you will want to have your realtor help you.

Your realtor will be able to educate you on the types of properties in different areas and neighborhoods and advise you on price ranges for each area. For example, if you want to buy a single-family home, they can provide you with areas where these homes are within your price range. Or, if you want to buy in a downtown area, your only option for an affordable home may be a townhome or flat in a high-rise condominium.
