Learning More About Real Estate

After finally saving up enough money to use as a down payment, I decided that it was time to hit the market. I met with a lender, got pre-approved for a loan, and then started visiting different properties. However, I quickly realized that I didn't know as much about real estate as I would have hoped. I wanted to find a great neighborhood and know what to ask the professionals, but I could tell that I needed a little help. To point me in the right direction, I started working with a great real estate agent who was familiar with the area. This blog is all about educating the general public on real estate matters.

Looking At Serious Diseases You Can Avoid Through Mouse Extermination

by Nathan Olson

While learning that you are sharing your house with a rodent is never fun, you should know that mice in your home can create serious health hazards. Mice are crafty creatures and are able to get into many areas of your home, especially when it comes to your kitchen. Learn more about some of the diseases you and your family can catch from mice in living in your house.

Lymphocytic Choriomeningitis (LCM) And The Mice In Your House

Mice unfortunatley are not potty trained to go outside, so if you have them in your home, you will see mouse droppings in places like your kitchen cabinets and even on your kitchen counters. When mice droppings and urine remains in your home, you are being exposed to them. If you pick up an object that has mouse urine on it or it has been sitting mice droppings, you could end getting this disease when you touch an open wound, rub your eyes or put your hands in your mouth. At the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention, you can learn more about a serious virus that can be contracted from breathing in dust that has been contaminated with mouse droppings and urine. This virus starts with many of the same symptoms as the flu or a respiratory infection, but when left untreated, can lead to neurological issues. Symptoms of LMC include:

  • Fever

  • Loss of appetite

  • Nausea

  • Headaches

Mice Can Carry Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS)

HPS is a rare, but deadly virus carried by some mice, the same ones that could be living in your home. You can catch HPS by breathing in the virus when cleaning up mouse droppings or urine, cleaning up a mouse nest or living or working in a house or other structure where mice live. Symptoms of HPS include:

  • Nausea

  • Fatigue

  • Body aches

  • Vomiting

  • Fever, dizziness, chills

If you have seen a mouse or the evidence of one in your home, taking steps to get rid of it and any more with it is extremely important. Avoiding your family getting sick from diseases carried by mice is vital because they can be harsh, even deadly, for small babies and older people with weakened immune systems. Contacting a professional pest control expert is the best way to ensure you home is free of rodents and any other pests that can carry diseases in to you and your family.
